Before I get started, I just want to let you know there’s a new gallery section where you can post pictures of your own craft spaces and organizing ideas. I’ll be posting Fridays to start off with, and concentrate on my own process. As I get settled, I’ll introduce you to more sources for inspiration and organization ideas. As some of you know, I recently moved, which gives me the chance to actually design my craft room from the ground up. I thought it might be fun to share my process as I get the new space up and running. Hopefully I can give you some new ideas, share some great resources, and inspire you to make your scrap space really work for you.
My first step has been to gather visually inspiring ideas. I did this for a number of reasons. One: I’ve known I was moving somewhere for a year, and this was a way to keep me motivated when I had to clean my previous house for yet another showing. Two: I find I work better if I have a goal in mind. I make better pages when I have a general idea of what I want to accomplish, and the same is true for any home project I’ve ever undertaken. Three: I have some art and memorabilia that I love and I want to make sure I include those items in my craft space.
I have been using Pinterest to collect ideas for my craft space and I finally found one that really spoke to me as great starting point for my room. (Here’s my Pinterest board if you’re interested in seeing what I’ve gathered so far.) I love the wood and wall color combination in this photo from House to Home.
I love the wood tones with the blue and white. I have a few mid- and light-toned wood tables I’ll be using in my craft space, and I always used to say my favorite color was blue. This combination is very calm and serene, and seems like a more sophisticated color scheme than the blue color schemes I would have used as a kid.
I will have some bright pops of color though, because I also want to hang up these:

The prints are done by a local artist that I absolutely adore.
There wasn’t enough room for either of these in my old craft space. I’m so glad I’ll be able to use them now.
My first task is to pick a color and slap it on the wall. I grabbed some paint chips from Home Depot, and these are the choices I’ve narrowed it down to. I think I’ve settled on a color, but which one would you choose?
